Choctaw-Nicoma Park Schools Museum

The C-NP Schools Museum was a key element of the Choctaw Alumni Association’s “Preservation of the Past” mission purpose as stated in the CAA’s Articles of Incorporation:

“Partner with the C-NP School District in the historical preservation efforts related to the formation, operation, and sustainment of the C-NP Schools Museum by providing financial and volunteer assistance and support.”

From its inception in 2019 through 2025, the CAA has raised and donated over $30,000 for the Museum – a continuation of the tradition that began in 1965 when the CHS Class of 1965 (host class of the 2015 CHS Annual Reunion) donated reunion proceeds to the C-NP School District as seed money for the establishment of a museum fund.  From 1966-1969, subsequent classes hosting their annual 50th reunions did likewise with those donations surpassing $20,000.

Not only has the CAA provided significant financial and volunteer support for the Museum, its leadership was instrumental in forming a collaborative working group to delineate short/long-term roles/responsibilities for the Museum among the primary stakeholders – the CAA, the C-NP School District, and a Museum-working group led by Dr. Jim McCharen and the late Andy Thompson (Class of 1965.)  From this collaboration, a plan was developed to move the Museum into a fully functional operational reality.

The C-NP Schools Museum Association (CNPSMA) was subsequently formed and legally incorporated as a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt entity.  The CNPSMA is an independent, non-profit organization providing overall management, fiscal accountability, and operational oversight of the Museum.  Correspondence can be mailed to: C-NP Schools Museum Association; 12880 NE 10th St; Choctaw, OK 73020.  Click the following link for more information about the CNPSMA: CNP Schools Museum – Choctaw-Nicoma Park School District

The C-NP School District will provide overall Facility management and maintenance of the Museum..  This will include payment of utilities, insurance, and facility repair/maintenance – but no direct financial, administrative, or operational support.

The CAA will continue its Preservation Partnership with both the School District and the CNPSMA in order to ensure that the Museum realizes its full potential.  This will include both financial and volunteer support as outlined in the CAA Charter including: utilizing the CAA website and other media to promote/publicize the Museum; continuing to accept Museum-designated donations; immediately transferring these designated donations to the CNPSMA.
